Galvalume is an aluminum-silicon-zinc alloy coating that is applied to a sheet of steel using a patented process developed by Bethlehem Steel. The result is a highly corrosion-resistant steel that delivers an optimum combination long-term durability resistance to corrosion.
Testing of Galvalume against competitive products over a 23-year-period has overwhelmingly showed that its durability is two to four times that of galvanized G90 sheet.
Don soft-soled shoes, ditch the baseball cleats and walk around on our roofs all day long! The seams are durable and a great anchor to hold onto as well. Just be sure to avoid stepping or placing weight on the ridgecap.
The MadCow Roofing division of Iron Horse Roofing warranties all workmanship to be of good quality and free of defects for a period of five years following installation. This warranty does not cover any product damage or defect resulting from abuse, modification, improper maintenance, acts of God or normal wear and tear. Evaluation of any issue arising within the warranty period will be performed free of charge to determine if the issue is workmanship related. Any repair required due to a problem with workmanship will be performed free of charge. If it is determined that the problem is not related to workmanship, repairs will be charged at the current rate of time and material.
Lightning will always strike the highest point on the ground that allows the shortest distance of travel. That said, there is no evidence that lightning is more likely to strike a metal-roofed building than one that has any other style of roof.
If you are in a high-risk area for lightning strikes, we recommend that you contact a certified lightning protection company for an assessment.
Stiffening ribs are twin ½ inch wide indentations in the panels that are about 14 inches apart and 1/16 inches deep. Whiles they’re typically used in high wind situations where the optimum strength and rigidity is required, some customers choose to have them installed for aesthetic reasons. Raised ribs are also available.
If you have plastic gutters on your home, we recommend removing them every fall to avoid any damage that might result from heavy ice and snow. If you have metal gutters, a metal gutter topper works very well in allowing the shedding snow to flow over the top of the gutter, while letting water normally drain into the gutter.
Snow angels slow down the shedding snow to eliminate the ‘avalanche’ effect that occurs when snow builds up and lets go.
A snow fence retains snow, thus eliminating any shedding at all.
Snow fencing is typically used on commercial roofs, whereas snow angels are used more on residential homes.
We are! Because we know how important it is. While it’s costly coverage that most roofing companies don’t carry, IRON HORSE ROOFING wants to ensure that all EVERYONE – our workers, our company and our customers – are fully protected in the case of any injury sustained while on the job site.
Workers Comp insurance not only compensates the injured worker for medical bills and recovery time, it also protects the homeowner from any legal actions that worker may be otherwise entitled to. Simple liability insurance doesn’t not cover any of these issues.
Kynar 500 is a finish that’s applied to the Galvalume metal, and comes in 24 standard colors. Kynar is similar to a ceramic coating, since it is applied at a high temperature and results in a more durable finish. This makes it more resistant to cracking, peeling, blistering and fading.
Kynar 500 is also Energy Star® rated, which helps keep your home cooler and qualifies for various state and/or federal tax incentives. These vary from state to state; visit dsireusa.org for information on incentives in your area.
Ice dams are most commonly the result of excessive heat loss through your roof. The best way to address this issue is to have an energy efficiency audit performed on your home by a reputable insulation company to determine where the heat loss is occurring, and then properly insulate the trouble area(s).
Additionally, proper ventilation of your roof and attic/crawl space will help expel any heat being lost from your home before it creates a ‘hot spot’ on the roof; this could melt snow and result in an ice dam.
Backer Rod is a 5/8 inch strip of round foam that’s secured to the roof under the center of each metal panel. The result is a slight arch or ‘crown,’ that increases roof ventilation, reduces oil canning, and adds more strength to the panel.
Corrugated metal roofs are considerably noisy, due to the amount of dead air space between the metal and sub-roof, which creates a hollow or tinny sound during heavy rain and sleet conditions.
Standing seam roofs, however, are VERY quiet. When tested side by side with an asphalt shingle roof, the difference between the two is barely noticeable.
Oil canning is the result of natural expansion and contraction of the metal that causes a rippling appearance. This primarily occurs during the warmer months of the year, and is more prevalent in lighter gauge metals (26-29 gauge). IRON HORSE ROOFING uses a thicker metal (24 gauge).
Yes. The lower the number, the thicker the metal. The most common gauge being used is 26-29. IRON HORSE ROOFING uses 24 gauge metal.
